I love a little adventure whether it be around my home or on a far away travel with my FM (favorite man) and FG (favorite girl). This blog was originally started as a way to keep family and friends updated on our life on Guam but, we moved to upstate New York, so we’ve become Displaced Beachbums.

I have enjoyed reading and looking at your site. All I can say is…I wish I had your life. I found your site by accident …”googleing” for a place for me to just go and get away from it all. Lookin for the happy life!
Hey Patti, we so miss the both of you. I was on the blog tonight and saw that you had left a comment. We were so sad to hear about Bennett. I commented on the blog. Ryan saw it and was also saddened. Bennett was the type of dog we all wish for. We have yet to get a dog, I really understand the commitment and we haven’t yet felt comfortable with so many other things going on but it is a desire. I will gladly talk to you though as I respect your opinion even if I know you won’t say what I want to hear:) I felt so bad for missing your call and I know I need to talk to you. You always have such practical advise. Our neighbors husband returned but we never see them, it was over a week before I got to say “Welcome Back!” Nothing like having you and your family as neighbors.
Anyhow, gotta go as we have dance class tonight. I may have to change sites to the one you and Kathy use. The one I am using is such a pain I haven’t been keeping up.
Take care and keep in touch!
Stephanie
Hi Patti! Thanks so much for the postcard, and for the reminder to stop in on your blog! I miss you, but when I read and check out your pictures, it’s like we are back in the office in Atlanta talking again!
Thank you for sharing your adventures… I love it!
I came acoss your blog tonight and wanted to say hello. I take it you are stationed at Big Navy, we are on Andersen.
Hi Patti! I found your blog during a ‘boonie stomping’ search
I see that you are heading to NY soon and thought that was interesting as my husband and I live in upstate NY and are traveling to Guam in June with our daughter (Navy gal) to help take care of her little boy. Your posts are great and we are looking forward to visiting some of the places you have written about.
) There are beaches and parks, lakes, and hiking trails to visit – along with the Thousand Islands!
New York is not as exotic as Guam and the seasons change dramatically
Marsha: that’s interesting that we’ll be “trading places” come June. Guam is a wonderful island with REALLY nice people. If you get a chance, check out some of the other islands such as Saipan and Palau.
We’re looking forward to our new adventure in upstate NY. From what I’ve read and seen, it looks beautiful.
Darn. I just stumbled onto this site this morning and I am hooked. I’m a reader of Josie’s site and am always interested in reading about home. It really is sad that Guam is losing a family like yours, open minded, appreciative, and a nack of valuing the positive aspects of places. I plan on returning home after my training, so it’s too back I will not get to meet you, the FM, and FG back there.
Brian: thanks for your nice words of encouragement. We love Guam (reminds me, I need to get one of those mugs) and we’re sad to be leaving so much sooner than we thought. I have a feeling we’ll be back this way again in the future ~ if we can’t live here, we can always visit, right?! Good luck with your training.
Hi Patti! Thanks for sharing your blog with me. It’s wonderful. I might even be inspired to start one. Love the idea of flashback Fridays. You’re a pretty cool
I’ll miss you when you leave our lovely little island…

Patti-
I have loved this blog site! My husband is Navy and we are moving to Guam in Jan 08 (that is in 6 months). I will be going there from a pretty comfy neighborhood in San Diego and haven”t been too “excited” about the move but your site has really helped reduce my fears. If you ever have time I would love to get info on making a blog site for my family and friends too. Thanks so much for all the great pictures and info!
Louise: Will you be moving to “Big Navy” or will your husband be part of the Navy unit here on Andersen? Of course, there’s good and bad to every place but where ever I go, I concentrate on the good things a place has to offer. If you like the outdoors and the island lifestyle (laid back), you’ll probably have a great time here. I understand though how hard it would be to leave San Diego ~ that’s a pretty nice town to be in.
I’ll send an e-mail re: setting up a blog. I’m actually going to help another Navy wife set one up today so I’ll take notes and pass them on. The big thing is getting the perfect title for you/your family.
I am a Navy wife living in San Diego getting ready for a move to Guam. My husband’s orders state we’re going in November. I randomly found your blog while researching Guam, so I thought I’d say hi and let you know that you have a lovely blog! I saw that there’s another Navy wife headed to Guam around when we’re going… feel free to pass my info along to her! It’s always good to have friends!
My email address is crysmc@gmail.com
The comment above is mine! I didn’t mean for it to be anonymous, so I thought I’d add this comment. Usually I’m good at following directions, but I’m apparently terrible at first impressions.
I do have a question for you when you have a free moment. I noticed in your Guam entries that you had dogs but no fence. We were told by another pilot in my husband’s squadron, who just moved back to the states from Anderson AFB that you could have a fence as long as you put it up yourself and removed it before you left. That’s how it’s been at other bases we’ve lived on. So I’m confused… either we got bad info or your family opted not to do the fence. With the typhoons, I could see how fences wouldn’t be allowed, but I’m REALLY hoping they are. Any insight? For clarification, we are moving to Anderson AFB.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
Just a quick note to let you know I am thinking about you and sounds like you all are settling in – that is wonderful! How are you spending your birthday? I hope FG and FM are treating you to some good food and good times!
Steve is actually going to cook my birthday meal at home this year — quiet evening, should be nice. We are heading to CA 10/16 for a few days before I start my NEW job! Yep, will tell you more later. Luke is doing well — so life is GOOD!
Hugs to FG and FM!
My boyfriend is in the navy and just found out he will be stationed in guam. If we get married when he comes home does the navy pay for you to go with them? or is it all out of your own pocket?
Tabbi: I’m not completely familiar with the Navy but, if it’s like the Army, then once you’re married, the Navy will pay for your relocation to the new duty station so long as it is an “accompanied” tour and you’re on the Permanent Change of Station (PCS) orders. Let me know if you make it to Guam ~ we miss it a lot!
Hi Patti!
You have probably already covered this somewhere, but I couldn’t find a “search” box, so I’m just going to ask! Do you watch “Army Wives,” and is it realistic in any way?
I know it’s a soap opera, so I take it with a HUGE grain of salt, and I only just started watching, so I missed all of last season, but it makes me think of you (especially since Kim Delaney reminds me of you!), and I thought I’d ask.
Hey Patti – Stacy turned me on to your site and I enjoy riding along on your family’s adventures. She has been all over me about goin up to visit the mountains & river (I’m sure I don’t have to tell you which ones). Lucky her – I’ll be visiting Stace next weekend and I’m pritty sure she will have a lot of funnies and stories. Also – she will most definitely be on my backside about us taking an adventure sometime soon.
Hi to the family & have a terrific travel and awesome August.
Hi Alan ~ Glad you’re enjoying the blog.
Don’t believe any of those Stacy stories
Would be nice if we could all meet up in the mountains next summer. Have fun on your visit next weekend & give Stacy a “pat on the back” for me ~ she’ll get the joke.
Stacy told me all about the difference between the ‘pat on the back’ and the ‘Stacy hug’. It’ll probably just be the ‘pat’ that she’ll get from me.
OK you 2 – I do read this blog you know. Next time FM and FG and I are going on our own adventure & you 2 can stay home
! For those reading this that don’t know – I’m a bear hugger – Patti’s a bit more reserved. Told Patti if she saw our friend Sandie again before she left to give her a hug for me – a Stacy hug, not a Patti pat. Told Alan I was afraid I’d offended her, but in Patti’s usual good humor – (& knowing me VERY well) she caught the amusement. And by the way my stories might be enhanced, but are ALL true
Thrilled you guys have had such a delightful trip – enjoyed tagging along – and still more than a bit jealous! Only visited St. Thomas and knew then and now even more – doesn’t nearly do the VI justice. Leave it to you guys to not be content with sitting on a beautiful beach, but to take in everything possible in a relatively short visit & using up the pumpkin car. Love the news about FG’s new blog – gonna tell a couple of neighbor’s kids about it in hopes they’ll visit her site! Talk soon – xo to FM & FG & hi out there, Heidi!
oops p.s. – Glad the old VI coach Bolleteri wasn’t visiting at the same time
Public setting, private joke – sorry folks – but quite funny!
Happy Birthday Patti! I hope you are doing well, and I’m so thankful for your blog so I can keep up with your adventures (although I forget to read it as often as I should)! Take care, and if you find yourself in California, let me know!
Erin
I am going to try to start a blog about Ft Drum and I am asking for advice and feedback on the site layout and how to improve it.
